This summer, I will again(for the 10th consecutive year) participate in a 100 mile bike ride (with a brutal 8,000 feet total climb) through New Jersey, the Pocono Mountains, and Upstate NY, with a stop in Glen Spey, NY, the location of Camp Simcha, and extraordinary overnight camp, run by Chai Lifeline, which gives children with cancer a vacation from sickness, restoring their spirits and renewing their determination to fight their illness.

The purpose of this ride is to raise funds for Chai Lifeline, an organization focused on helping children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Chai Lifeline provides more than two-dozen essential programs for more than 5,900 children and families confronting pediatric illness, crisis, and loss. These services include counseling and case management, meals delivered to hospitals and homes, transportation to medical appointments, emergency financial assistance, insurance advocacy, afterschool programming, Big Brothers/Sisters, crisis intervention, and Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special, Chai Lifeline’s flagship medically-supervised summer programs.

Sadly, when my daughter Ariella was ill, I learned, firsthand, the tremendous help and support that Chai Lifeline provides. They visited us in several hospitals, sent food when needed, and helped my other children cope with a situation over which they had no control. Unfortunately, Ariella passed away when she was 8 ½ years old. Following her death, I became committed to helping this wonderful organization and we founded the Ariella Horenstein ‘Music in our Lives’ program, which sponsors all the music activities within Chai Lifeline, including performances, hospital visits by musicians, group programs and projects.

To train for this ride, I will bike the hills of Harriman & Bear Mountain State Parks and northward, with a 2021 training goal of 3,500 miles and a cumulative 250,000 feet of vertical climb.

I will be biking to camp on Thursday, July 29th. My objective is to raise at least $18,000 by then and I hope you will help me reach this goal. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.

Please be a part of my ride this year, and contribute by clicking on the donate button now.

Thank you for supporting me and in doing so, helping children and their families cope with the diagnosis, treatment and aftermath of serious pediatric illness.

Best Regards,

Avrom
